Security Audit
The Security Audit is an audit test that tests the overall security of your PC. You should consider a score of 80% or higher a pass.
Your PC can be rated one of the following:
- Fortress
- Brick House
- Tent
So your PC is a Tent…
Has your PC been rated a “Tent”? If so, there are several things you can do. Examine each individual test carefully. The tests shown in red (having a score below 50%) indicate security problems. Select one of these tests and you will see, below the list of test results, a helpful message that says how you can improve security for that test.
Simple Suggestions to Improve Security
- Install a 64-bit OS
- Get a trusted AntiVirus program such as McAfee or Microsoft Security Essentials
- Disable AutoRun for all drives (see KB967715)
- Use a web browser other than IE
- Keep your OS up to date with the latest service pack and security updates
You should always aim for a “Brick House” or higher security rating. Generally, 32-bit Windows XP PCs will receive a “Tent” rating unless just about all security precautions have been applied, since Windows XP is a dying OS with a poor built-in security model that is soon to be phased out.
Of course, if you don’t care about security feel free to ignore the results at your own peril.
