Welcome to the official home page of the language called Romana (ro-mAH-nah).

Lingua Romana ("The Roman Language") is the language spoken by the people in the Roman empire. This is a hypothetical language that would have evolved from classical Latin, much like modern Greek evolved from ancient Greek. The only difference is that modern Greek actually exists while modern Latin (Romana) disappeared around the time of the collapse of the Roman empire. The remarkable thing is, even though this is a fully constructed language, with highly regular grammar and morphology, it turned out to be very similar to Italian. This is no surprise, since Italian is believed to be the closest modern-day descendant of Latin.

This site contains Romana lessons and a translation of the Babel text.
