Dacris Software Announces NetXP 4.0

DACRIS SOFTWARE INC., April 29, 2005 -- Today Dacris Software, celebrating one year since NetXP 3.0 was released, officially disclosed plans for the next version of NetXP. Dubbed NetXP 4.0, this release will primarily build upon the innovations brought forth by .NET 2.0. NetXP 4.0 is targeted for final release in October, with a beta release scheduled for August.

NetXP 4.0 will be designed from the ground up for .NET 2.0 and Visual Studio 2005 while remaining compatible with .NET 1.1. Since .NET 1.1 and 2.0 are so radically different, there will most likely be two separate editions, one for each .NET framework version. The .NET 2.0 release will be full-featured while the .NET 1.1 release will have to be back-ported and thus may lack some of the newer controls.

For the first time ever, NetXP 4.0 will offer a source-code license alongside the traditional commercial license. This is designed to offer maximum flexibility to all developers. The source code license will be available at a higher price than the regular license and will not include technical support if the source code is modified.

NetXP 4.0 will make great strides in terms of compatibility. Right-to-left reading and localization will be top-priority items, and will be thoroughly tested and supported in all controls, unlike version 3.0 where support was sporadic. Overall, NetXP 4.0 will be far more compatible than NetXP 3.0.

Certainly, NetXP 4.0 will mean a vast expansion of the control library, with focus on introducing many new controls as well as enhancing existing controls. Many long-awaited user experience controls will be included in NetXP 4.0.

New controls will include:

  • ControlList, which will provide a highly-extensible list-view control
  • ViewFinder, similar to the Outlook 2003 folder browser
  • XPListView, an enhanced list view supporting Windows XP features like tile view
  • XPBalloonTip, an enhanced balloon tip control relying on Windows XP APIs

Enhanced controls will primarily be:

  • Docking, with designer support even for tabbed groups
  • DesktopAlert, will become inheritable for maximum customization
  • CommandBar, with enhanced designer support and many new features
  • Many other controls enhanced according to user suggestions

NetXP 4.0 will also include some bug fixes, for bugs detected since the last release of NetXP 3.0.

The beta program for NetXP 4.0 will begin in August. If interested, you can sign up for the beta program, at http://www.dacris.com/betasignup.aspx.
